Tips for Preparing for a Career As a Las Vegas Lawyer July 6, 2010 No Comments

Taking law as a career path is relatively longer than other courses. The path usually starts in entering college. However, most are surprised that there is no required major or minor to become lawyers in Las Vegas. One must obtain a bachelor’s degree from ANY program. However, it is important to graduate with a high Grade Point Average. This will be your “license” in entering a law school.

Since there are no restrictions with the degree program, it is best to choose an enjoyable undergraduate course. Choose one that you believe you can do best in. However, it is not always about choosing the easy way out. Take several units from languages, philosophy, pre-law and logic. These will hone the indispensable skills of future Las Vegas lawyers.

Proficiency in written and oral language is a need. Lawyers must be able to interpret the law, and understand legal documents that they will encounter. They must speak with clarity, precision and persuasion. They must also develop their deductive and inductive reasoning skills. The law might look complicated, but it is all based on logic.

Finally, it is advisable to immerse yourself in arts and subjects of human interest. Basically, most laws are concerned on human interests and welfare. Through this, the student will develop appreciation of human diversity, needs and ethics.
